Take a hike to Vietnam with Action Cancer

Northern Ireland’s leading cancer charity Action Cancer is calling on local adventurers to join them on their latest challenge.

The charity’s newly-launched Trek Vietnam 2013 will cover approximately 70 rugged kilometres in the north of the breathtaking country, passing through pristine jungle before enjoying the bustling markets, tree-lined avenues and colonial charm of Hanoi.

Participants will walk for up to six hours a day, trekking the ancient mountain passes and terraced paddy fields of the Sapa region, camping in remote villages and interacting with local hill tribes including the Black Hmong and Red Dao people.

Here, they will absorb the real essence of Vietnam in what is guaranteed to be the challenge of a lifetime.

Alongside this incredible experience, trekkers will be raising vital funds for Action Cancer’s range of early detection and support services for those suffering from cancer in Northern Ireland and their families.

These services include a unique breast screening programme for women aged between 40 – 49 and over 70, counselling, health promotion, and complementary therapy.

“Everyone who participates in our overseas treks has their own reason for supporting Action Cancer. Whether they have been affected by cancer themselves, know someone who has been diagnosed or simply want a new challenge, they all have the same determination and dedication to raise vitals funds for the charity,” said Action Cancer Events Officer Lyn Palmer.

“As well as a fantastic opportunity to visit a new country, these challenges are a great way to motivate yourself, do something different and make new friends.

Participants will be helping people in the heart of their own community, as all funds raised from Trek Vietnam will be spent right here at home. To date, overseas challenges have raised over £2 million for Action Cancer, which has made a huge difference to the lives of the countless people who have been touched by cancer in Northern Ireland.”

Each trek participant will be fully supported by the Action Cancer team, who will offer advice and assistance with fundraising activities. In order to secure their place, participants pay a registration fee of £200 and also commit to raising a minimum sponsorship amount of £3400.

However, a special Early Bird deal is currently available which offers a significantly reduced registration fee of £80 plus a complimentary copy of The Rough Guide to Vietnam!

If you would like to take part in this fantastic adventure, please contact Lyn on 028 9080 3369 or [email protected] for an information pack.
