Take the plunge for cancer charity

The Obel abseil will take place on September 1 and Linzi Corr and Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children are seeking both thrill-seekers and those who wish to conquer their fear of heights to sign up.

Those brave enough to take part in the abseil will be treated to breath-taking views of Belfast’s skyline. Some of the highlights include the iconic Harland and Wolff cranes, the Cavehill and St Anne’s Cathedral which can be seen clearly from the magnificent £75m building.

Linzi encouraged those who are even “just thinking about it” to take that leap of faith and help out “such a hardworking” charity in the process.

“The children supported by NICFC take a leap of faith every day in coping with the huge challenge ahead of them battling with cancer and those taking part in this event just need a small leap of faith to hop over the side of that building. Not only will they have a great experience but the awareness and funds raised for the charity are invaluable to those it supports,” she said.

Linzi revealed while her nerves about taking part in the abseil are growing by the day, she was proud to be helping such a fantastic cause.

“The work carried out by this charity is inspiring and makes a real difference to those coming to terms with being diagnosed with and living with cancer, at a time in their lives where they should be carefree and having fun.

“NICFC provides support for the families as well as giving children and young people opportunities to socialise and focus on enjoying themselves instead of being defined by their illness. I am excited and scared at the same time about taking part. I have abseiled before but never from a building of this height so I imagine the adrenaline will be pumping on the day! I have chosen the abseil for this reason as it’s great to try things that scare you and make you really feel alive,” she concluded.
