Terrific line up at the Riverside

On Saturday, March 2, at 8pm, it’s very much an evening for jazz enthusiasts as the rheatre welcomes trumpeter Rick Swann, and a host of other musicians in Rick’s new show Satchmo.

Professional trumpeter Rick Swann has had appearances around the UK, Europe and USA on stages such as London’s Royal Albert Hall, Belfast’s Odyssey Arena and as lead trumpet onboard RMS Queen Mary 2.

In this Riverside first, Rick is embarking on a new venture and this new show, ‘Satchmo’, and it promises to be a sensational debut, showcasing the iconic life and music of world renowned jazz musician Louis ‘Satchmo’ Armstrong.

With a line-up to include renowned jazz musicians such as John Trotter (trombone) and Gay Mclntyre (clarinet), as well as a richly talented rhythm section, this show promises to be a night to remember – and not just for jazz fiends!

Meanwhile, Belfast professional company c21 Theatre company returns to Riverside with its turbocharged production of Romeo and Juliet on Wednesday, March 6 at 8pm.

Produced by c21, this pared-down version of the famous romantic drama distils all the beauty, violence and tragedy of the original… but in fewer than 90 minutes.

The production has been especially adapted for schools and smaller theatre venues with the original script that has been adapted by Gary Wilson including all the key scenes. Shakespeare’s universally known language is still intact but in a more condensed and accessible form.

The star struck young lovers will be played by Lisburn actor Michael Lavery, who has just finished a run of Martin Lynch’s Titanic Boys, and Belfast’s Jolene O’Hara, who recently starred in c21’s Christmas version of Red Riding Hood. The pair head up a dynamic cast bringing Shakespeare’s words to exhilarating new life.

Associate Tutor of Riverside’s very successful Youth Theatre, Ben Levy, will be holding auditions in Riverside on Saturday, March 9 – for all parts in the Andrew Lloyd-Webber musical, which he will be directing in the theatre this coming summer.
