The Atlantic Sessions return!

This autumn, as the evenings slip in under the cover of darkness, Coleraine Borough Council welcomes residents and visitors to come along and enjoy an incredible four day line up at Atlantic Sessions 2012.

The event will showcase over 30 FREE live original music acts with performances in various pubs and bistros throughout Portstewart and Portrush including three satellite venues located at Portballintrae, Castlerock and The Listening Post Coleraine.

The event will take place from 8th to 11th November 2012, with a line up which embraces well known acts in the music circuit and some that are relatively new to the scene. These will include: Master and Dog; The Farriers; The Emerald Armada; Katie and the Carnival; Paddy Nash and the Happy Enchiladas; Ciaran Lavery; Ben Glover; Rachel Austin and a range of well known local artists.

Tickets are now on sale for the festival headline acts performing over the weekend. These include the superb Gemma Hayes, supported by Sons of Caliber at Flowerfield Arts Centre Portstewart, tickets are available from Box Office: 028 7083 1400. Bap Kennedy will perform at Crusoes, Castlerock tickets available from Crusoes 028 7084 9618. Anthony Toner will also be lighting up the auditorium at Flowerfield tickets available from the ticketline on 028 7083 1400. All other gigs are FREE.The Atlantic Sessions is now in its fifth year and is growing into an established quality music event, which is inclusive of all age groups and spans the complete folk genre from contemporary to traditional, acoustic to electric. The Council’s aspiration for the festival is to attract a wide and diverse audience to the area and this is reflected in the festival line-up and the varied range of music on offer. The majority of performances are FREE, featuring young, contemporary acts such as ‘The Murder Balladeers’, known for their quirky live performances and ‘Malojian’, who conjures up-lifting, soothing folk ballads, along with more traditional acts such as The ‘Ard Ri’ Band.Mayor of Coleraine, Councillor Sam Cole said; “Coleraine Borough Council’s has developed the Atlantic Sessions Festival to enhance the visitor experience and encourage short breaks outside the main tourist season. The FREE live entertainment from the country’s home grown talent creates a positive, energetic atmosphere in the pubs, hotels and bistros and helps give our local hospitality industry a much needed boost in these difficult economic times.”
