The “Causeway Crew” Rock School make Final of Moyle’s Got Talent!

Following on from the visit of Irish pop duo Jedward on the 4th November 2011 as part of Children In Need The Rock School for disabled young people and their peer buddies run by Ballymoney Community Resource Centre continues to go from strength to strength.

The band, set up in August 2010 and known as the “Causeway Crew” entered the semi-final heat for “Moyle’s Got Talent” on Saturday 21st April at McAlister Hall in Ballycastle. The band were up against stiff competition from local artists of all ages and abilities and we are pleased to report that their performance on the night was more than enough to convince the judges that they had the “right stuff” and they are now in the final which takes place on Saturday 5th May at McAlister Hall in Ballycastle!

The Rock School scheme aims to bring together young people with physical and learning disabilities and able-bodied peers as part of the ‘Rocking The Causeway’ project which is funded by BBC Children In Need and normally meets every second Saturday at Ballymoney Community Resource Centre.

There are currently over 20 members aged between 10 – 26 years of age, several of whom are musicians while the rest of the group are vocalists. The group brings together young people with and without disabilities and seeks to increase their skills, confidence and self esteem. The group are just one element of the Resource Centre’s Rocking the Causeway project, along with the soon to be established Disability Youth Forum.

Also on Saturday 19th May at 7pm at Ballymoney Community Resource Centre’s new premises, Unit 22 /23 Phase 1 Acorn Business Centre, 2 Riada Avenue, Ballymoney, the group will be hosting a performance and launching a CD which will go on sale and the funds raised will be put back into the Rock School.
