The celebraion of “Same Stories” - a digital story telling project for Moyle

A celebratory event last Tuesday evening saw the conclusion of the “Same Stories” project, as a series of digital stories which were created by the members of Mosside Development Association and were presented at Sheskburn House, in Ballycastle.

“Same Stories” was a series of Creative Writing and Digital Story workshops which were delivered under the guidance of the Workers’ Educational Association (WEA). The project was part of Moyle District Council’s Good Relations Programme under PEACE III.

The participants were asked to consider their own legacies and cultural identities, together with those of others in their communities. The participants developed their material under the direction of WEA tutor, Mary Duddy, who edited the content into a series of digital stories.

Additional to this, another participant from outside Bushmills also created his own film which was also presented on the evening.

During the sessions, the group addressed the facts around identity and diversity and the participants developed the spoken and visual material to create their digital stories.

Carole Kane, Development Officer with the WEA said “These short digital stories demonstrate creative responses to the cultural identities and sense of belonging of the participants who all live in the Moyle area. Those involved in the programme have looked at relevant community issues as well as the creative processes involved in producing these stories and this evening’s celebration has shown just how valuable this learning experience has been to the participants.”

Cllr Padraig McShane and Cllr Sandra Hunter presented each of the participants with WEA learner certificates and copies of the DVD, and the evening concluded with the viewing of the Cultural Connections Documentary and the MOMA Belfast project which were also both examples of PEACE III projects.

Tracy Walker, acting Good Relations Officer with Moyle Distrist Council said “the event went well and that it was evident a lot of work had gone into the delivery of the course and the making of the films and well done to all involved.”
