The Ulster Covenant and Ulster Day: The Local View

In this historic year, the theme of this month’s talk is also The Ulster Covenant and Ulster Day only this time Mr Blair will focus on the local perspective.

One of the few places where Ulster Day, 28th September 1912, did not bring out thousands was North Antrim. Described as “rather a damp squib” in Ballymoney and with more opposition in Finvoy, the scene in North Antrim was very different from most other places across the province of Ulster.

Mr Blair’s talk will investigate the reasons for this and give details of what happened. He will tell of proceedings at Leslie Hill and in Ballymoney Town Hall and the unprecedented scenes at Finvoy Presbyterian Church

It is a talk not to be missed, for this is the other side of the Covenant story which barely gets a footnote in the general history of the event.

The talk takes place at 8pm in Ballymoney Town Hall. Admission £2 includes refreshments.
