Time to tackle troublesome weeds in the lawn

A few weeks ago I gave advice on moss in the lawn and now its time to address the other perennial problem: weeds.

Lawns and weeds are growing well and it’s time to take action, selecting from a variety of products available in the garden centre. My number one choice for killing weeds and feeding the lawn is Scotts Lawn Builder Feed & Weed. The lawn builder range releases the feed over a longer period of time, greening and thickening the grass slowly so there is no quick growth.

This product can tell the difference between the lawn and the weeds. It should be applied prior to rain and seven days after the last cut and leave a

further seven days after application.

There are also products called Three In One Scotts Evergreen Complete or Westland After Cut. Both work in the same way, feeding the lawn kill the weeds and kill the moss. Application should be between cuts. These products act quickly and therefore need watering in if no rain is due, to avoid scorching.

All granular products should be evenly distributed. If possible, use a lawn spreader. If the products are not evenly applied, scorching can occur or too much feed can be applied and also parts of the lawn missed. Your lawn could look like a chess board.

If you are fortunate to have a lawn with no moss and weeds, but an odd weed occurs, use a ready-to-use product such as Resolva Lawn Weed Killer. There are also liquid lawn weed killers which will not feed the lawn, but will clear the weeds out.

If you require any further information on dealing with weeds and moss in the lawn, visit the garden centre.
