Time to Talk

The 36-year-old lives and breathes Lurgan Town FC and when he’s not getting behind his hometown club he’s cheering on Liverpool.

Maxie as he’s known to his friends is Under 12 coach at Lurgan Town along with Robert Davidson.

He has also coached with the Academy, Soccability (disabled football) and Girls’ Football at Lurgan Town.

His 21-year commitment to the club saw him awarded Sports Volunteer of the Year in 2011 and he has also recently acquired his UEFA ‘C’ Coaching Licence.

Gareth is the only child of the late Baden and Angela.

Maxie is an eligible bachelor and he’s asked that interested females form an orderly queue.

What do you like doing on your day off?

Spending time down at the Lurgan Town Arena, always plenty to be done.

What would you do with a million pounds?

Make sure my family had no money worries, buy everything I’ve wanted and invest in ground improvements for my beloved Lurgan Town

If you could visit any time in history, which would you chose and why?

Istanbul 2005 Champions League Final - I watched it in rugby club, wished I could have been there. Perfect example of team spirit, togetherness and will to win. Experienced two sides of emotion in one night - unbelievable!

What is your dream holiday?

To spend a month in the Big Apple. My cousin Ruth lives there.

Slob or clean freak? Why do you say that?

Clean freak. Being messy is lazy LOL

Your biggest fashion disaster?

A chequered waistcoat which I wore at a club awards night - never again, so much stick!

If you ruled the world what would you do first?

Make sure everyone would never have to work again.

If you were an animal what would you be and why?

Lion - ‘cause I’ve got a big heart LOL
