Belfast International and George Best Belfast City gradually return to normal

Operations were gradually returning to normal at both Belfast International and George Best Belfast City Airports today (Thursday) following the six day closure of airspace prompted by fears volcanic ash from the eruption in Iceland could damage aircraft engines.

Belfast City's biggest carrier Flybe said it intended to operate 100% of its flights while easyJet, International's biggest operator, said people should continue to check their flight's status on the company's website before leaving for the airport.

It also said its passengers must check-in no less than one hour before their flight and should be aware online boarding passes will not be accepted. Everyone must check in at the airport.

Jet2 which flies between Belfast International and Leeds Bradford says its flights will operate as normal today.

bmibaby has cancelled some flights at Belfast International today. They are WW1021 Birmingham – Belfast; WW1022 Belfast – Birmingham; WW3501 Manchester – Belfast; WW3502 Belfast – Manchester; WW5601 East Midlands – Belfast; WW5602 Belfast – East Midlands.

Aer Lingus intends to operate all flights between Ireland, the UK and Europe today including its services between Belfast International and London Heathrow. Extra capacity will be available on some services.

bmi which flies between Belfast City and Heathrow intends to operate 50% of its domestic UK timetable today. Full details of flights available to and from London can be found on the airline's website.

Continental Airlines' service from Belfast International to Newark is also operating today.

Manx2 which flies to the Isle of Man from both Belfast International and Belfast City is operating as normal.

Thomas Cook Airlines intend to operate all outbound holiday flights today although some may be subject to delays as aircraft are used to repatriate travellers stranded abroad.

Ryanair flights from Belfast City will operate as normal from tomorrow (Friday).
