Urgent action over faulty street lighting

Mr Storey said: “The Regional Development Minister, Danny Kennedy, spoke some time ago about the lights going out all over Ulster and he has delivered similar warnings more recently. He really needs to manage his budget in such a way as to ensure that front-line services are maintained over these dark winter months. He needs to give priority to public safety issues, and there is no doubt whatever that failure to repair street lights will have an adverse impact on community safety.

“I have therefore been greatly disappointed to note that street lights in a number of locations in Finvoy, Balnamore, Dunaghy, Cloughmills and Cullybackey still have faulty lights, despite the matter having already been brought to the DRD’s attention. I was shocked to learn that, in all likelihood, it would be 2015 at the earliest before these particular issues would be addressed. In my eyes, that is totally unsatisfactory. The delay in carrying out repairs is causing grave concern to our constituents, many of whom are elderly and vulnerable, and I formally raised the matter, on behalf of myself and my North Antrim party colleague, Councillor John Finlay, with the Minister Danny Kennedy and chair of the Regional Development Committee, Mr Trevor Clarke MLA.
