UUP call for action on dog fouling

The UUP in Londonderry say they have been contacted in recent days by residents in Newbuildings regarding the on-going problem of dog- fouling in the village.

Local Party Vice-chairman Ronnie Mc Keegan, who is also a resident in the area, said this problem must be dealt with once and for all.

“The pavements of the village are in a disgusting state and the problem seems to be getting worse with the children’s Play Park and the local football grounds at the community centre being used as a dog toilet by dog walkers.

“Many residents in the village are working to enhance the appearance and this problem flies in the face of their best efforts. The health risk speaks for itself.

“Responsibility lies with the dog owners. It is simply not good enough to let dogs out to roam the streets and this cannot be allowed to continue.

“I have highlighted the problems with council Environmental Health officers and, in anticipation of prompt action, have requested that the Dog Warden investigate the problem of stray and nuisance dogs in the coming days

“I would also ask all pet owners to please clear up after your pets and keep them under control at all. There are many who do act responsibly but the problems are arising from those who fail to do so. In the interests of all there has to be zero-tolerance of their lack of community spirit,” he said.
