During a behind closed doors meeting of Coleraine Borough Council last Tuesday night, councillors agreed to hand over the car park adjacent to Dunluce Castle to Exile Promotions, who will be organising the concert.

In a statement, Coleraine Borough Council said: “ At this stage it is agreed by Council to approve the handover of the car park at Magheracross Portrush to Exile Promotions in June 2013 for the purpose of staging a two-day event.

“Conditions associated with the handover and Council’s involvement with the event will be the subject of separate Council consideration at a later date.”

Dunluce Castle is one of Northern Ireland’s heritage gems and provides stunning views of Northern Ireland’s coast line - and it is here that Belfast born Morrison has always dreamed of playing.

With confirmed gigs in Cheltenham and County Down in May, Van will be making a trip to the North Coast in what will be a huge economic boost for the area.

Morrison has a huge global following, awards and accolades picked up by the Northern Irish man include an OBE, six Grammys, a Brit and an Ivor Novello, as well as honorary doctorates from Belfast Queen’s and Ulster universities.

He has also been entered into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the French Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.
