10 double adjournments due to forensic delays

DELAYS in the preparation of forensic evidence have resulted in ten Londonderry cases being adjourned on two or more occasions over the past three years, it has emerged.

DUP MLA Lord Morrow asked the Justice Minister David Ford how many cases have been adjourned two or more times due to forensic evidence delays.

He explained that ten local cases have been adjourned on more than two occasions here since 2010.

“An adjournment monitoring exercise is currently operating in Londonderry Magistrates’ Court and records cases where the reason for an adjournment is that the case is ‘Not Ready – Forensics’.

As of February 29, 2012 there were ten cases in Londonderry Magistrates’ Court which were adjourned on two or more occasions for this reason,” he said.

The figures spiked from one case in 2010 to 8 cases in 2011 and back to one case in 2012. The figures for the last two years were provisional.
