10k illegal parking tickets issues

OVER 10k tickets were issued to Londonderry motorists for illegal parking in 2010/11, Roads Minister Danny Kennedy has revealed.

The total figure was 10,892. In both Limavady (1057) and in Strabane (2,582) over 1k tickets were issued to errant drivers.

The figures refer to the number of Penalty Charge Notices (PCN) issued in 2010/11.

Incredibly, over 6k parking tickets were issued to motorists across Northern Ireland who had parked in disabled bays without displaying a blue badge.

And 32,042 tickets were issued in respect of vehicles illegally parked in restricted streets, i.e. on yellow lines.

The Minister stated: “4449 PCNs were issued in respect of vehicles parked in loading spaces during restricted hours and 15,771 PCNs were issued for vehicles parked on-street for longer than permitted.”
