12 clubs to tackle racism

TWELVE youth clubs and projects across Londonderry and the wider North West will address sectarianism and racism through a new ‘We’re Connected’ EU-funded peace initiative.

Shauna O’Neill of the North West Youth Forum for Peace and Reconiciliation (NWYFPR), which developed the campaign, said: “This is an opportunity to improve relations between young people across the North West and a chance to make new friends.”

The grass roots initiative is aimed at young people from 11 to 25-years of age.

Another member of the forum Richie Feeney said: “We launched this campaign so that we could make a difference to the lives of young people. We would encourage people to contact us and get involved.”

The Youth Forum members will facilitate various activities to help build relationships and develop an appreciation of the value of diversity. At the end of this process, the participating groups will be invited to a Peace Conference to share their learning experience.

In addition, a publication will be created to acknowledge the campaign and the role of the young people in making it work.
