12 per cent of sex cases in city

TWELVE per cent of cases involving alleged sexual offences in Northern Ireland are listed for Londonderry courts.

Justice Minister David Ford revealed 52 of 428 such cases were listed for courts in Londonderry.

This is higher than all other districts apart from Belfast and Antrim.

Thirty-six of the cases are before the Londonderry Magistrates’ Court and 16 are before the Crown Court.

“All cases relate to sexual offences which trigger the notification requirements under Part 2 of the Sexual Offences Act 2003 (as amended),” said Mr Ford.
