12 year old Grace is proud to be selected

12 YEAR old Grace Stewart from Dromara said she is “proud” to be carrying the Olympic torch in Antrim on June 7.

She was nominated by her PE teacher at Blackwater integrated college, Downpatrick, Joy Millington. The school took part in the ‘Get set network’ which is a programme designed to help schools make the most of the Olympic and paralympic games. As part of this the school were able to nominate a 12 year old for the torch relay.

Grace is a member of Lisburn city swimming club, the Murray school of Irish dancing, Ballynahinch girl guides and a past pupil of Dromara primary school. She is proud to carry the flame and represent these groups, her family and friends and her school.

In her submission Grace said how she always enjoys competing, she doesn’t always win but she always tries her best and has fun.

Her submission impressed the staff at her school as it focused on the Olympic values of respect and friendship.

Grace said: “I am very honoured and excited to be have been chosen to take part in this amazing event, I would like to thank my school and especially Mrs Millington for nominating me.”

Grace’s family friends, school friends and teachers will be in Antrim on June 7 to cheer her on.
