13,000 new homes desperately needed in Mid Ulster as new dwellings sales surges

Mid Ulster's housing is full to bursting with a government housing report stating that the area is in desperate need of 13,000 new dwellings to house a 27% increase in new households.

The projected increase is the largest in Northern Ireland and is set to herald a wave of house building for the area over the next two decades.

Sales of newly constructed homes in the Mid Ulster area surged to 43 last quarter, according to the latest Department of Communities housing bulletin, which said that Mid Ulster shared the highest number of sales along with Lisburn and Castlereagh District Council, and Armagh, Craigavon and Banbridge District Council.

The figure is more than double that of the previous year, when there were 21 such sales. The average house sale price in Mid Ulster now stands at £134,000,
