139 violent offences against pensioners

THERE were 139 violent offences against pensioners in Londonderry over the past five years, according to Justice Minister David Ford.

PSNI statistics show the amount of violent crimes against persons over 65 in the city rose from 26 in 2007 to 28 in 2009, reaching a high of 38 in 2009, before falling back to 24 in 2010 and 23 in the current calendar year to date.

Mr Ford provided the details in response to an Assembly Question tabled by SDLP MLA Colum Eastwood.
