14 men arrested atBarr funeral

Fourteen men have been arrested under the Terrorism Act as a result of the policing operation at the funeral of Michael Barr in Strabane earlier today.

The 35-year-old Strabane republican was being laid to rest after his murder in a pub in Dublin on Monday, April 25.

Mr Barr was shot dead in the Sunset House in Summerhill.

According to Gardaí two men entered the public house shortly after 9.30pm, one of these men discharged a firearm, fatally injuring Mr Barr who was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post on the Irish Republican and Proud Facebook profile described Mr Barr as an “IRA volunteer”.

“It has been confirmed that the 35-year-old man shot dead in the Sunset House bar in Dublin yesterday evening by cowardly criminals was IRA Volunteer Michael Barr, originally from the County Tyrone town of Strabane.

“Tragically taken from his family and young children, my thoughts are with them, his friends and comrades at this time,” it read.
