1400 students at Careers Convention

YOUNG people from across the city gathered at Lagan Valley Leisureplex last Wednesday for the annual Careers Convention organised by the Lisburn Business Education Partnership.

Over 80 exhibitors from industry, further education colleges and universities and training organisations were on hand to talk to over 1400 of the city’s teenagers about their future options.

Paul Beaton, Chairperson of the Partnership, explained: “I was delighted to see so many exhibitors give of their time so freely to support our annual convention.

“On behalf of the Lisburn Business Education Partnership I would like to thank the exhibitors and our local schools for their commitment to the work of careers education and preparing students for the world of work. A special thanks must go to our sponsors Lisburn City Council and to the team from LBEP, particularly Montupet’s Eileen Boylan, for their excellent organisation of the event.

“Hopefully many students gained valuable information about possible future careers or training opportunities, which they will be able to further pursue with the support of their Careers Teachers.”

The Mayor of Lisburn, Brian Heading, paid tribute to the organisers and added: “I was very impressed with all the young people I met and enjoyed hearing about their aspirations.”

Wallace High School Lower Sixth pupil Tony Gordon concluded: “I hope to have a career in politics and the convention provided me with an excellent opportunity to talk to several universities about course and accommodation options for next year.”
