1.4k paid-off and pensioned teachers back subbing

A STAGGERING 1,409 teachers on enhanced redundancy or retirement packages were back in schools as subs in 2010/11 across Northern Ireland, it’s been revealed.

Seven hundred and eighty six of these were employed in the post-primary sector and 572 were employed in the primary sector.

There were 51 others teachers whose last schools before receiving enhanced compensation for redundancy or premature retirement benefits did not fall specifically into either the primary or post-primary sector.

Education Minister John O’Dowd separately revealed 30 temporary posts were filled in the Western Education and Library Board in the 2010/11 year.

And of 16 teaching jobs advertised in WELB in 2010/11 15 required at least one year’s experience.
