15 sex offenders awaiting assessment by forensic psychologists

Justice Minister David Ford advised 15 prisoners in the County Londonderry jail are currently awaiting assesment.

There are eight prisoners in Maghaberry and one in Hydebank Wood who are also awaiting examination.

Last week the Sentinel reported how twenty-six rapists and sex offenders serving sentences in Northern Ireland jails were in ‘complete denial.’

Now Mr Ford has revealed 15 sex offenders in Magilligan await a psychologist’s report.

Mr Ford explained that forensic psychologists are qualified to assess a prisoner’s suitability to undertake offending behaviour programmes though assessments can also be carried out by trainee psychologists under supervision.
