This fast paced exciting game will afford young people the opportunity to engage face to face with their local Councillors. In a twist, the councilors will remain anonymous to the students as they vote for the elected representative they would choose based on how well they answered the questions.

“Human Rights Makes for More Inclusive Communities” is the theme for the youth Question & Answers session and will see guest speakers from the Pat Finucane Centre and the Law centre in attendance.

The Mayor, Sue Divin (Community Relations Officer, Derry City Council), Helen Harley (Children and Young People’s Officer, Derry City Council) as well as party representatives from all local political parties will also contribute to the morning session.

Mayor Kevin Campbell said: “Local Democracy Week is a fantastic way for our elected members to keep in touch with the youth of this city.

“It will help provide some insight into areas that affect young people and will subsequently help us make informed decisions on issues which may have an impact on their lives. This is particularly relevant as we move closer to the City of Culture 2013 and the opportunities they will present.”

Member Services Officer with Council, Karen Henderson said: “We had a tremendous response locally to our events so much so that we had to put on an extra day of events to facilitate demand.

“Over 20 elected members from across all parties have given their time to our programme and we are looking forward to a fun, informative but ultimately engaging week for all participants.”
