156 melanoma

OVER 150 people were admitted to Altnagelvin over the past three years with a primary diagnosis of melanoma - the most common form of which is skin cancer.

In total 156 people were admitted to the Londonderry hospital. The figure for the whole of the Western Trust was 223.

There was sharp increase in admissions from 42 in 2010/11 to 67 in 2011/12.

The age group with the largest number of admissions was the 70-79 followed by 60-69.
