184 children 'at risk'

OVER 180 primary school children in the Western Health and Social Care Trust (WHSCT) were deemed "at risk" by social services last year.

The number or children of primary school age (5-11) on Child Protection Registers at March 31, 2009, was 184. This was up on 160 in 2008. There are now 50 more children deemed at risk in WHSCT than there were in 2005.

The Health Minister outlined the figures in response to an Assembly Question.
