20 inmates investigated
Since the October 8, 20 inmates from HMP Maghaberry are currently being investigated by Police on suspicion of committing drug offences, including Possession of Class A drugs, Possession of Class B drugs and Possession of Class C drugs with intent to supply.
To date, 11 of those being investigated will be reported to the Public Prosecution Service.
Three visitors to HMP Maghaberry have also been arrested on suspicion of Possession of Class A & B drugs with intent to supply, and Conveying an Article into a Prison; enquiries are continuing.
It comes as prison staff and police began a joint education and enforcement programme to reduce the amount of drugs getting into the jail.
