20% of lecturers at Magee campus are Protestant

OVER sixty per cent of lecturers at Magee are Catholic, University Minister Dr Stephen Farry has revealed.

Just 36 (20.2 per cent) of academic staff at the Londonderry campus are Protestant compared with 110 (61.8 per cent) who are Catholic. The amount of “non determined” teaching staff at 32 (18 per cent) is almost equal to the Protestant total.

In terms of the overall workforce at Magee 83 (17.4 per cent) are Protestant compared with 328 (68.6 per cent) who are Catholic.

The total number of teaching staff whose religion is listed as “not-determined” - including people whose religious belief is Muslim, Hindu, Sikh, Jewish, Buddhist, none, or who have declared themselves as neither Catholic or Protestant - is 32 (18 per cent).

There are 67 (14 per cent) staff classed as “not determined” in Magee’s overall workforce. The Minister revealed the information in response to an Assembly Question from Traditional Unionist Voice (TUV) MLA Jim Allister.
