20% of turbines in Londonderry

OVER 20 per cent of 781 applications for wind turbines currenty being processed in Northern Ireland are Londonderry schemes.

Only in Omagh where there are currently 188 turbines in the planning system is there a higher concentration.

Environment Minister Alex Attwood revealed there were 165 Londonderry turbines being processed in response to an Assembly Question.

He stated: “Planning is currently engaged in an ongoing exercise to cleanse and quality assure the data it holds on renewable energy applications. As such figures may be subject to revision.”
