20 women in Ballymoney diagnosed with breast cancer - can you help?

Bras, boas and bandannas will be out in force at Cooke Rugby Club, Belfast on Friday 17th June at 9pm where the Action Cancer 10 mile moonlit walk into the city centre and back will commence.

All money raised from this event will support Action Cancer’s breast screening service, the only one of its kind in Northern Ireland. Action Cancer offers screening to local women aged 40 – 49 and 70+ who fall outside the NHS age range.

There are over 1,000 women diagnosed with breast cancer in Northern Ireland every year, including approximately 20 living in the Ballymoney Borough Council area.

Dougie King, Head of Fundraising and Communications for Action Cancer said, “We’re asking the men and women across Northern Ireland to put their best foot forward, get dressed up in pink or fancy dress, and sign up for this summer’s Ballygowan Pink MoonLight Walk!

“Action Cancer detects an average of seven cancers for every 1,000 screenings that we carry out. If every person taking part raises the minimum target figure of £80, then they personally will be giving a woman in Northern Ireland the chance to receive a breast screening.”

Registration for the Ballygowan Pink Moonlight Walk is £20. Action Cancer is encouraging participants, where possible, to raise a minimum amount of £80 – a significant sum as it costs Action Cancer £80 to provide a mammogram.
