20th birthday for Goldline express

STUDENTS, business commuters and tourists have been using the service for decades now and Translink are inviting them all to attend a special 20th anniversary celebration of the Goldline Express at Foyle Street tomorrow, Thursday, April 29.

The service is marking the milestone of 20 years in operation and Translink would like to thank local passengers for their support over the years.

The 212 was Translink’s first Goldline Express Service and marked a new era in passenger comfort, speed and convenience for travel between Londonderry and Belfast.

In 1990, there were just two daily departures from Londonderry and Belfast, Monday - Saturday, and now the service operates seven days a week with departures every 20 minutes at peak times.

Inviting passengers to the birthday celebrations, Alan Young, Translink Service Delivery Manager, Londonderry, said: “Thanks to our passengers and continued investment, the 212 remains a flagship service providing a vital link between two major cities.

“Used by all sorts of people from students to families, business commuters to tourists, the importance of this service to the local community cannot be under-estimated.

“We are looking forward to marking this milestone and will be welcoming back retired 212 staff for a celebratory event. We also hope that passengers can join us at 11.00am in Foyle Street Bus Station to share their own 212 stories and toast to a positive future or this flagship Translink service.”
