229 A&E call outs

THERE were 229 emergency ambulance call outs in the Limavady area during the 11.30pm-8.30am "Red-Eye Shift" between June and October - although just three of the calls involved life-threatening incidents.

Thus explained the Health Minister Michael McGimspey in response to DUP MLA George Robinson who asked him for a breakdown of the call-outs through an Assembly Question.

He advised there were 48 in June; 50 in July; 42 in August; 45 in September; and 44 in October.

He added: "It should be noted that only one third of these calls involved life-threatening incidents."
