24 hour sit-out to build school in Uganda

This is the fifth year for the sit-out in Church Street and Jonathan is delighted to say that there are actually three sit-outs this year... friends Noel and Jeanette Gibson are doing the sit-out in Portadown and local Glarryford woman Alyson Reid is also doing the sit out in Ballymena.

Jonathan and his wife Wendy have been out to Uganda a number of times and, God willing, will travel out again in Sept 2014 with the GO UGANDA 2014 team.

Jonathan said: “It’s great to go out to Uganda and meet the communities and see the huge difference the donations make.”

All monies received go entirely to the work of FIELDS OF LIFE, a local Christian organisation that has been working in Uganda for 20 years, and has built over 110 schools and sank many wells.

Fields of life have a vision to sink 1000 wells in ten years.

Jonathan said “It is a great challenge in our Christian lives to help others, especially those who have so little.

“We have been given so much in Northern Ireland and have been blessed in so many ways and really, if we are honest, most of us want for little, unlike our friends in East Africa who have so little and just need a helping hand.

“In 2nd Corinthians 8 v 7 the apostle Paul encourages us to use what we have “see that you also excel in this grace of giving,” added Jonathan,

“We are reminded in the Bible that it is more blessed to give than to receive and the Lord himself tells us in Luke c12 v 48 “From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded, and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.”

So at this Christmas time when we have an abundance of everything and as we move towards a new year let’s consider what we can do to help others.
