24 less people 'out of work' in Moyle

TWENTY four less people are 'out of work' in the Moyle area compared with last year, encouraging new official figures have revealed.

According to the Statistics Research of the Department of Enterprise, Trade & Investment 586 Moyle people were unemployed in August 2010 - a decrease of 3.9% from 610 in 2009.

Of these 5.5% were of working age with 419 being men and 167 females.

Unfortunately the number of people unemployed in the Moyle rose slightly by 0.5%, or three, compared to the jobless total for the July 2010.

In Ballymoney, the figures also showed a downturn by registering a 7.8% increase in the number of people claiming unemployment benefit.

The figures illustrated that in August 2010 there were 958 people without a job in Ballymoney Borough, an increase of 69 on the same month in 2009. It was also reported that 4.9% of the jobless people were of working age. Of the 958 people in Ballymoney Borough, 729 were males and 229 females.

However the number of people unemployed in the Ballymoney Borough did decreased by 0.2%, or two, compared to the jobless total for the previous month.

Yet again both Moyle and Ballymoney are two of only three councils to have unemployment below 1,000.

The newly released figures also revealed that five people were made redundant in the Ballymoney area in the last 12 months, with none in Moyle.
