25% of brothel and prostitute cases in city

TWENTY-FIVE per cent of active cases of alleged prostitution or brothel-keeping in Northern Ireland are in Londonderry.

Justice Minister David Ford revealed there were three cases before the Londonderry Magistrates’ Court at March 25.

This compared with six in the Belfast Magistrates’ Court and one at Antrim Magistrates’ Court.

There are also two cases before the Crown Court in Belfast.

Last year it was revealed that prostitution was up in Londonderry with six reports of alleged offending in the city in the first six months of 2011 compared to five in 2010.
