25 years of Crown Defenders Flute Band

THIS year sees the 25th anniversary of the formation of local band Crown Defenders Flute Band from Cloughmills and with it the organisation of a range of events to celebrate this momentus occasion.

On Wednesday, August 1 the band will be holding their annual parade and competition through the village. Over the years this parade has grew to be one of the largest in the province with bands attending from every corner of the province. The parade will get underway from the Drumadoon Road at 8.15pm.

Leading the parade this year will be Constable Anderson Memorial Flute Band from Larne, the same band who lead our first parade 25 years ago. Trophies to be awarded in the usual categories after the hosts have closed the parade.

On Saturday, August 4 to coincide with the 25th anniversary parade, there will be a kids fun day in the field behind Pattons Bar main street Cloughmills.

They will have all sorts of entertainment laid on for the kids including a duck race, bouncy castles,face painitng,balloon modelling etc. There will also be a 5 – a side competition for the local bands to partake in.

The day will get underway at 12 noon and run to 4pm. That night there will be a disco in Patton’s bar with doors opening at 9pm.

To round off the year they will be holding a 25th Anniversary dinner dance in the Lodge Hotel Coleraine on Saturday, November 17. The band are hoping all the current members, friends, family and ex-members of the band can join with them on the evening. More details about tickets etc. will be released closer to the time.

The band took the opportunity to thank everyone involved in getting the band to where they are today and they look forward to you joining with them to help celebrate our 25th year on the road.
