‘30 reasons why DVA jobs must stay here’

SDLP Assembly Member John Dallat has responded to a public consultation on the future of more than 300 jobs that could be lost at the Driver and Vehicle Agency Centre in Coleraine.

He said he had listed 30 reasons why the jobs should stay in Coleraine.

He said: “This public consultation closes on Wednesday, September 11 and should be responded to without delay.

“I do not want to see a poor response which would be seized upon as an excuse for proceeding with this preposterous plan which would take £20 million out of the local economy.

“I have listed 30 reasons why the plan is outrageous and I am happy to e-mail my document to anyone who requests it. “

“The grounds put forward by the Department of Transport in London are seriously flawed and need to be challenged on every count. “

Mr Dallat added: “This campaign isn’t simply about saving jobs; it is about maintaining a local service which has one of the highest satisfaction rates of any government agency.

“ It is, of course, about sustaining the local economy, protecting not just the 300 jobs in DVA but also several hundred more that would be lost if this plan goes ahead. The campaign isn’t simply about Coleraine, but a travel to work area which includes Limavady, Derry, Magherafelt, Ballymoney and Ballycastle”. The response should come from a wide geographical area
