The figures refer to Principal dentists only and exclude those dentists working in the Community Dental Service and the Hospital Dental Service.

The number of doctors covering WHSCT is more or less unchanged over the same period. There were 190 GPs practising in April 2005; there are now 194 GPs practising.

These figures refer to headcount of unrestricted principals or equivalents, and salaried GPs. Other types of general practitioner, such as locums, assistants, and associates are not included.

The statistics were provided by the Health Minister Michael McGimpsey in response to a written query at the Northern Ireland Assembly.
