350 years of Ballywillan Presbyterian Church

‘To Lovingly Make Known’ records the history of Ballywillan Presbyterian Church and is beautifully and authoritatively written by former newspaper editor Hugh McGrattan.

Through words and pictures, this wonderfully crafted book, gives a true sense of perspective on the longevity of Christian ministry at the church - situated on the outskirts of Portrush over the past 350 years.

Hugh has used his journalistic skills and expertise to weave together a very readable narrative which clearly reflects the church’s life and work over those years.

The title of the book draws on the church’s mission statement, but also reflects the manner in which this book has been constructed.

In its pages the author ensures that there is an accurate and contemporary record of Ballywillan through three distinct sections.

Initially, the first 300 years of the church’s history are recorded in parallel with other historical events, before turning to the detail of the last 50 years. The final, pictorial section, includes photographs of people, places and activities associated with Ballywillan over those years.

Praising the work, Rev Stephen Williamson, Minister of Ballywillan, said: “Hugh McGrattan has engaged in a labour of love, crafting a book which places the Ballywillan story in the context of the times”.

‘To Lovingly Make Known’, was launched after Sunday service at Ballywillan at the weekend.

It will have interest to many both locally and wider afield. Copies are available for purchase in local bookshops and, though the church office, for members of the congregation.
