ALTNAGELVIN Hospital School which was closed last year is the latest in a line of schools that closed in Londonderry over the past decade - all within the controlled or voluntary grammar sector.

Education Minister John O’Dowd listed all the local schools that have closed in the last ten school years across Northern Ireland.

The closure of the Altnagelvin school last year was the first closure reported in the city since 2003 when Foyle and Londonderry College’s Preparatory unit, Templemore Secondary School and Maydown and Strathfoyle Primary School all closed their doors.
