Forty metres of copper piping has been stolen in a burglary on the outskirts of Londonderry city centre.

The burglary occurred at the weekend at the bottom of Academy Road.

Constable Forbes, the investigating officer, said: “The property is in the process of being completely renovated. The suspects removed at least 40m of copper piping, as well as causing damage to boilers and radiators, causing extensive water damage within.

“The external wall of the property which the majority of the copper was removed from is on the corner of Academy Road facing onto Northland Road.

“It will have taken some time to remove the piping and possibly a vehicle to convey it elsewhere. It is possible that somebody may have noticed something suspicious, if not the actual removal.”
