49 less people join dole queue

FORTY nine less people are 'out of work' in the Moyle area compared with last year, encouraging new official figures have revealed.

According to the Statistics Research of the Department of Enterprise, Trade & Investment 573 Moyle people were unemployed in September 2010 - a decrease of 7.9% from 622 in 2009.

Of these 5.4% were of working age with 422 being men and 151 females.

The number of people unemployed in the Moyle also dropped by 2.2%, or 13, compared to the jobless total for the August 2010.

However in Ballymoney, the figures for 2010 showed a disappointing trend by registering an 8.7% increase in the number of people claiming unemployment benefit - a staggering 75 more compared to the previous year.

The figures illustrated that in September 2010 there were 942 people without a job in Ballymoney Borough, an increase of 16 (1.7%) on the same month in 2009. It was also reported that 4.9% of the jobless people were of working age. Of the 942 people in Ballymoney Borough, 706 were males and 236 females.

Yet again both Moyle and Ballymoney are two of only three councils to have unemployment below 1,000.

The newly released figures also revealed that five people were made redundant in the Ballymoney area in the last 12 months, with none in Moyle.
