50 years' service at Council

LAST week Ballymena Borough Council said goodbye to John Hill, one of its longest serving employees, who has retired after nearly 50 years.

A presentation was held in the Mayor’s Parlour at Braid last Wednesday, January 27 for John who has been a local government employee since 1962.

John began his career in local government as a clerk after spending time as a Navigating apprentice in the Merchant Navy.

He became an employee with the Council in 1973 and was soon getting his feet wet as a public health inspector dealing with Rivers. He then progressed to Senior Environmental Health Officer then Assistant Principal E.H.O dealing with water quality.

Mayor of Ballymena, Councillor James Currie was at the presentation along with Mrs Anne Donaghy, Town Clerk.
