500 homes without power

AROUND 500 homes in the Banbridge area were without electricity on Saturday night in an unexplained black-out which lasted for two hours.

A spokesperson for NIE said an investigation was being conducted and engineers were testing a section of cable in an attempt to ascertain the cause of the fault.

She said around 500 homes had been affected and electricity had been off from 10.30pm until just after midnight.

Shirley Devlin, NIE Customer Relations Manager for the area, said, “Around 500 customers in the Banbridge area lost electricity supplies at 22.30 on Saturday night.

“NIE emergency repair teams responded immediately and restored electricity to all customers within two hours. Customers affected were in the Reilly Street and Downshire Road areas.”
