Did you know that the new Causeway Coast and Glens Council area has 67,000 households which require bin collection, has 49 sets of toilets and 56 football pitches?

Those were just some of the facts and figures that members of the Council’s Environmental Services Committee learned at Tuesday night’s meeting from the new Director Aidan McPeak.

Mr McPeak said that in general most people expect the Environmental section of their Council to look after bin collections and cemeteries, keep toilets clean and remove dog dirt.

He gave a presentation on the wide spread of jobs required from the department over a huge area which stretches from Greysteel to the Glens.

67,000 households require waste collection and 75,000 tonnes of waste is collected.

There are 2,500 km of roads and streets to be cleaned and 49 sets of toilets in the Borough.

The Environmental Section of Council has 154 vehicles and 210 plant and machinery.

There are 56 football pitches, 16 MUGAs, six bowling greens and two golf courses.

Ballycastle sea front also has a new crazy golf course which can be added into the mix.

There are 96 playgrounds in the CC&G Council area.

The department also looks after nine cemeteries and eleven old graveyards.

Inspectors also carry out 1,800 food premises inspections, license 16,000 dogs and look after 39 caravan sites, eight harbours and three marinas.
