56th annual dinner of Portrush WI

PORTRUSH Women's Institute its 56th Annual Dinner last month.

Members were welcomed by President Eileen Caldwell, especially special guest Ann Kirkwood, Executive Member for Riada area.

A minute’s silence was observed for founder member Lily McIlhinney who had died recently.

After dinner, prizes for activities throughout the year were presented by Ann. Winners were: Bowls - Ruby Thompson, runner-up Pat Boyd. Crafts Cup - Margaret McCullough, runner-up Molly Bell. Cup for introducing new members - joint winners Margaret McCullough and Maureen Gilgan. Quiz Shield - Margaret McCullough, Olive Lennox, Gladys Scott. Full Attendance Shield - Maud Lyons.

The competition for most interesting old postcard was won by Molly Bell. The birthday girl for February was Prunella Viz.

The evening continued with a drama “Getting Married” performed by Margaret Erwin, Olive Boal and Maureen Gilgan. The ‘Bannshes‘ gave a demonstration of Irish dances and a few members joined in, soon realising how unfit they were!

Ann Kirkwood thanked everyone for her invitation and for a very enjoyable evening.
