60+ plus population in Moyle higher than NI average

New population figures from the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) show that the number of over 60s in the Moyle District Council area is higher than the NI average.1 In 2010, 22.71% of people in the Moyle area were over 60 compared to 19.66% NI wide.2

Ron Warwick, General Manager of Age NI Enterprises commented, ‘Our ageing population should be celebrated! Older people who continue to remain active and engaged contribute to the fabric of our society in so many ways as grandparents, employees, carers, and volunteers. Their contribution should not be underestimated. However, it is a fact that some people do face challenges and need support to enhance and improve their experience of later life.’

He continued, ‘Nearly half of older people in Northern Ireland feel more isolated than ever from their local communities. Only 27% tell us that they have general good health. The Age NI Personal Alarm Service can help those people who would like to feel more independent, yet supported within their own home. It works at the touch of a button and is worn on a pendant or bracelet which connects a customer within seconds to a dedicated response centre, staffed 24 hours a day by specially trained operators. The Age NI Personal Alarm provides independence when you want it, and help when you need it.’
