6m passengers used Londonderry line

OVER 6million passengers travelled on the Londonderry line between 2006 and 2011 with annual usage jumping from just over 1m to nearly 1.5m over the five year period.

Rail Minister Danny Kennedy revealed the number of suburban railway passenger journeys on the Londonderry line in each of the last five financial years in response to an Assembly Question.

He revealed the total number of passenger journeys was 6,386,000. This rose from 1,021,000 in 2006/7; to 1,175,000 in 2007/8; to 1,402,000 in 2008/9.

It dropped back to 1,311,000 in 2009/10 before rising again to 1,477,000 in 2010/11.

Mr Kennedy warned the figures were supplied by Translink but were not official statistics.
