726 less antisocial reports:PSNI statistics

NEW police statistics show that anti-social behaviour in Londonderry decreased by 726 incidents between April and August compared to the same period last year.

Councillor Thomas Conway, Chairperson of Derry District Policing Partnership stated: “I would like to congratulate the police and our partner organisations on these welcome statistics.

“Anti social behaviour is continuously identified as the primary concern for our residents and this significant reduction of 726 incidents means that ASB incidents have decreased by almost 26 per cent when compared to the same period last year.

“Indeed it is worth noting that Foyle is now showing similar ASB reduction to areas like Carrickfergus, Newtownabbey and Moyle.”

PSNI Foyle Area Commander Chief Inspector Jon Burrows added: “Communities right across Foyle and G District have told us that anti-social behaviour is a major concern and we are responding.

“By focusing more on the needs of the caller or risk to the caller we believe that we can be more effective in tackling anti-social or anti-community behaviour.

“By increasing our engagement with young people, older people and families we are also better able to look at the underlying issues behind anti-social incidents and work with our partners to find lasting solutions.

“I understand that this is a very emotive issue for communities but it is one we are determined to get right, together.”
